Mark Cohen 1891 - 1971 The pipe smoking
bookseller with an immense knowledge of the antiquarian book trade,
specialist in the bibliography of Charles Dickens. When the shop finally closed and the remaining stock went to auction Cohen was asked if the publication of Helene Hanff's book had had any significant effect on sales, he replied "I get about eighty letters a week. If things had happened differently I could have sold everything I've got twice over". Mark Cohen died on the very day that the last consignment of books from Marks & Co were sold at Hodgson's auction rooms. |
